Say hello to Lydia…

This is Lydia. She has been part of our creative team for two years (she’s pretty much part of the woodwork). She is also famed for her beautifully hand-drawn birthday cards and exceptionally cool eye make-up. Here’s a little bit more about her…

Your job title is…

Explain your job

I work as part of the creative team to deliver a number of projects, such as emails, banners and other site material. I also dip in and out of working on our catalogues. I have recently started art-directing the catalogue shoots, which I really enjoy. Our team covers a real variety of work but I’m mainly delegated the more illustrative briefs.

Describe a typical working day

No two days the same, but I always start off with a good breakfast (crumpets) and then I’ll get cracking on whatever I’m working on that week. My favourite mornings are those when we have our team meetings in the cafe around the corner, where we drink coffee and have a big creative catch up and discuss all our ideas.

Best thing about your job?

My team! I just love working with everyone in the creative department and they make me smile everyday. Another highlight is when a really creative brief comes my way. Two projects which stood out in particular were designing a set of vinyl stickers for the office and a recent book cover for Holly and Sophie.

What/where did you study?

I studied Graphic Design at Nottingham Trent University.

How has your career path lead you to this role?

I was fresh out of uni when I started working at I met the Creative Director, Kate, at New Designers –  a show which gives newly-graduated designers the opportunity to exhibit their work. This is my first real job and I’m extremely thankful to have been given this opportunity.

Favourite product on the site?

Describe the style of your home

I am currently moving so my new place is pretty bare at the moment. My taste is quite unusual and I pick things that are not to many people’s taste, especially my mum’s. My old room was scattered with weird and wonderful pieces, one of which is a multicoloured ceramic pumpkin. I like to think of it as quirky clutter!

What can’t you live without?

Favourite seller on the site?

The Joy of Ex Foundation. I think her humour is just genius.

A range of tote bags from The Joy of Ex Foundation

Favourite magazine?

Uppercase. Everyone should have a good read.

For lunch today you ate –

My signature dish, homemade paella.

What’s your guilty pleasure?

Hazelnut steamed milk.

What’s on your iPod at the moment?

Disparate Youth by Santigold

What would you like to be doing in five years time?

I would like to have illustrated and published my own children’s storybook. I am currently working on something as we speak, so watch this space!
