our wedding story… Kirsty and Rob part 3
Wedding Photography by Ben Phillips
We’ve loved reading about Kirsty and Rob’s wedding day and hope you have too. Here is the final part of their city wedding capturing the heart of the country.
After the dessert and coffee, our MC announced the first dance and we twirled the floor to ‘Sunshine of My Life’. I had been nervous about this point but we went for one dance lesson prior to the day and after some top tips and reassurance that no-one was expecting Fred & Ginger, we actually really enjoyed the moment. Following on from this we had dancing to live band Legacy and rose petal martinis served at the cocktail bar.
I had brought some great roll up shoes which we put in a basket with a sign ‘For Tired Feet’ by the dance floor for the girls who couldn’t dance in their high heels. We had so many comments about this and what a relief it was to put on flats and be able to dance! We also had a photo booth (Groovybooth) with fancy dress which got everyone talking and created a real buzz. It left us with some very funny memories of a wonderful day. There were two copies of every photo so people could keep one and then stick their other photo in a book alongside a written a note – it’s a lovely keepsake and quite side-splittingly funny too! I made baskets of toiletries for the bathrooms – especially for the girls which included deodorant, mints, plasters and hairspray. We also has some displays of Rob and I as babies stuck on the doors to the Ladies and Gents loo’s which got people chatting! An artist friend had used some branches to sculpt a hat tree which we lit with pea-lights and used to make a real feature of everyone’s hats with a sign saying ‘Hang Your Hat Here’.
To keep everyone going we laid out a cheese and sweetie table at about 11pm. This included a sweetie tree (Sweet Arrangements) which was made of flying saucers and other sweets. This kept everyone on the dance floor until the early hours. We took people’s advice and had one magic moment stepping outside of the room and looking back in at all our favourite people together. It’s such a special feeling and may never happen again in your lifetime.
We left on a golf buggy at about 1am. The guests made a spontaneous pathway for us to leave through and I threw the bouquet as we headed off. We got a taxi (via a cat check!) to the Lanesborough where our friends had clubbed together and arranged us a suite for our first night. It really was the best day of our lives!!
Coming back from two weeks in Zambia and Mauritius was hard but the highlights have been the fantastic photos by our photographer, Ben Phillips and collecting all our amazing gifts! We had to hire a van to get them from my parents house and we filled the house with them! Due to the nature of all the different and specialised suppliers at notonthehighstreet.com, we got gifts that are truly personal and we will remember who each and everyone was from. Planning the day was the most fun I have ever had and we will keep talking it about it for many more years to come.
Thank you for sharing with us Kirsty and Rob. We fell in love with your wedding from the word go. We shall leave you with a few more of the couple’s wedding Gift List favourites.
