Emily & Chris’s Wedding
It may still be winter here, but Emily and Chris’s Spanish fiesta wedding has got us dreaming of summer (and a three tier carrot, red velvet and lemon cake). Surrounded by their family and friends – not to mention picture perfect views – Emily and Chris’s big day combined Spanish sophistication with beautiful, personal details.
With the stunning backdrop of the mountainside town of Mijas, this wedding is packed full of romance, laughter and a whole lot of paella.
We both wanted an outdoor wedding with beautiful, picturesque views and something a little different. Hacienda San Jose in La Cala De Mijas, Spain was the perfect location and encapsulation everything we envisaged for our relaxed Spanish fiesta wedding.
We really wanted everything about the day to be as personal to us as possible. Everything we picked had a link to us or the day. I collected personalised items during the year running up to the wedding day. My favourites were my beautiful personalised dress hanger, champagne glasses, olive oil favours and card post box. I also loved our herb themed seating plan and table markers, all of which we have kept as mementos of the day.
THE FIRST DANCE
We first heard Otis Redding’s ‘That’s How Strong My Love Is’, when we were driving back from collecting our wedding rings. We had been listening to a lot of soul and motown music and agreed that the words and tempo were exactly what we had been listening out for. It still brings back so many memories every time we play it.
The cake was homemade by a very talented friend of the family. We had three separate cakes – carrot, red velvet and lemon – our favourite flavours. It was covered with cream cheese icing and lots of flowers to match the bouquets. Our personalised cake slice is still brought out for special occasions.
I actually decided the date of my wedding based around the fact that peonies were in season in June, I love the pale pink and had always wanted them for my bouquet and button holes.
Strangely two of the moments I was most nervous about: reading our hand written vows and the first dance! I also loved the time just after the photos, before the meal. All of the guests were sat at their tables and Chris and I had about 5 minutes alone to talk about the goings on of the day of the wedding whilst looking out over the views of Mijas. Dancing with all of my best friends was so much fun too!
PEARL OF WISDOM
Try and arrange a meet up with your guests before the event, it means you’ll have more time to naturally chat to people on the day without rushing around to say hello.
