COOKING WITH DAD
Whether your dad is king of the kitchen or needs a little practice, it’s time to hand over the oven gloves and get cooking. 19th June is
Father’s Day Hang-Out-With-Dad Day, which gives you the chance to spend more time with your old man. From culinary kits to personalised mixing bowls, we’ve got all the right ingredients to give your Hang-Out-With-Dad Day some ganache (sorry, we couldn’t help it).
We asked Peter, from Auntie Mims (one of the small creative businesses we work with) and his daughter Lucie to roll up their sleeves, pull on their personalised aprons and get creative with the DIY Scotch Pie Company’s baking kit.
A household of seven – not including their huge great dane, Oakley – the folks from Auntie Mims are no strangers to getting stuck in with the cooking. It was their family and all the things they love, that inspired them to start their own business. From there, they’ve gone on to design and personalise over 10,000 wooden spoons from their workshop in Kent.
They cooked up a storm for an afternoon of dad and daughter time, find out more below.
WHAT YOU’LL NEED
The first thing you need is the kit. The brain child of a wee family-run business based in bonnie Scotland, The DIY Scotch Pie Company make and supply do-it-yourself scotch pie kits, gravy pie kits and even haggis kits (for the brave among us).
Make sure you cook in style with our set of Personalised Enamel Pie Dishes by Sophia Victoria Joy. We love the idea of getting these specially personalised for Hang-Out-With-Dad day. Not only can you use them on the 19th June, they’ll be a fun memento of the time you spent together.
It’s bound to get a bit messy when you’re chopping up your fillings and rolling out your flour-dusted pastry, so it’s the perfect time to test your personalised aprons. Designed and printed by Sparks Clothing in their workshop in Somerset they can be popped into the washing machine fresh for the next time you want to spend a little quality time in the kitchen together.
Next up on the menu: music. We love the idea of making a Hang-Out-With-Dad Day playlist of your favourite tunes, or simply turning up the radio so you can both have fun while slicing, dicing and baking until your heart’s content and your tummy’s full.
If you have any ingredients left over, why not pop them all together in a mystery piece (aka the chef special).
Now all the hard work is done, it’s time to tuck in and enjoy your culinary creations. That’s a Hang-Out-With-Dad Day gift, activity and meal all wrapped into one. You clever clogs you. Bon Appetit!
