Following from Jo’s post on Randolf Quinn, you might have guessed that we are obsessed with beautiful photography here in the weddings team at notonthehighstreet.com. Choosing your photographer is very personal and it is vitally important that who you choose suits both your tastes and personalities. Choosing how to display the resulting photographs is also something to consider carefully. So often, after the whirlwind of the wedding, when the dust settles and you both get back to normal life, the images that are so precious stay on the CD for months, always with the intention to do something beautiful with them, but never quite getting round to it.
At notonthehighstreet.com we love discovering a unique idea, and we’re particularly excited about Blighty Books, the bespoke wedding album creators.
Their technique brings together centuries old book binding and modern design to create beautiful handmade wedding albums that you will treasure forever.
We spoke to Hayley Adams, one half of the partnership behind Blighty Books, and who has an extensive background in the professional photographic market. This is what she had to say about the intricate process that goes into creating one of their beautiful albums.
‘Our company grew from a love of capturing and collecting beautiful images that we enjoyed showing to our friends and family. From this love Blighty Books was born.
We focus on ensuring our quality is the best in the market and have luxurious finishing touches, such as gilt page edges and coloured page details, which our customers love. As our name suggests, all of our products are made right here in ‘dear old blighty’. Everything is completely handmade which allows us to create bespoke albums of the highest possible quality. All of our albums and photo books are archival quality ensuring they will be treasured by families for generations. Even our beautiful packaging is archival quality and is handmade by a local company, (ensuring we keep to the UK made ethos) who even have a royal warrant so we were completely sold on them when we first met. Our boxes are lined with PH neutral board and our tissue paper is acid free.
We refer to our photobooks as being flush mounted as this is the technical term for the technique we use to make the albums. This technique is where the photographic prints are mounted back to back then trimmed on 3 edges so the end result is an album where the photographic print actually becomes the page. This enables a collage of photographs to be designed on each page. So images on CD can be turned into beautiful luxurious photo books.
Once we have been sent a CD of your images and any text you would like included, for example, readings, first dance lyrics, vows etc, we take care of everything. From editing the images, to creating beautifully designed pages, which can be previewed online. It’s really simple to make any amendments, just make comments below each page in the boxes provided and we will take care of these for you. Once you are completely happy with the design the pages are then professionally printed on large silver halide photographic prints and turned into the finished photo book. The pages lie completely flat revealing a double page spread creating a seamless look with an ultra modern feel. The pages are then bound by our master craftsmen in the most luxurious materials creating a book of the highest quality. Finally, the book can be personalised with your names, the date of your special day or possibly the name of the venue.
With the increasing trend of people only viewing their images on their computer, phone and/or facebook we are running the risk of becoming the generation of lost images. With technology moving on at such a pace and the risk of CD’s and media cards getting scratched, damaged or outdated (anyone remember Betamax or VHS?) The only way to guarantee preserving our most precious memories is to have them printed in some way. Our photo books are the perfect solution for preserving the extra special moments in our lives, for example weddings, anniversaries, births, the list is endless.’
