60 SECONDS WITH MATTHEW
What’s your job title and what do you do?
As Customer Service Project Manager, the key part of my role is delivering initiatives that will improve our customer service, internally and externally.
As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?
When I was growing up I was the biggest wrestling fan around, so spent my days dreaming of being Bret Hart or The Ultimate Warrior. As I got older, my passion for music grew and I wanted to be a superstar DJ. This has yet to happen, but you may find my head bopping in the office on a regular basis as I do love my dance music.
What’s the least ordinary thing about you?
My music knowledge is generally very good. I can name many song titles and artists from about five seconds of the intro – not that less ordinary but quite a good skill to have in a quiz.
If your friends had to sum you up in three words, they’d be:
Joker. Witty. Old soul (two words, but true).
How did notonthehighstreet.com catch your eye?
I was first introduced to notonthehighstreet.com by my dear wife, whilst buying bits and bobs for our wedding. When I found the position at notonthehighstreet.com, I knew straight away that this was the company I wanted to work for – I loved the business concept and felt excited about being part of its success.
Has the NOTHS team lived up to expectations?
Honestly, I didn’t know what to expect as I had never worked in this environment before, but what I’ve experienced so far has been amazing. It’s not everywhere that you can come to work happy and enjoy what you do, with people that are not just colleagues but friends too.
notonthehighstreet.com vs. other companies. What’s different?
I’ve been fortunate enough to work for some great companies that have developed me as a person. However, I’ve never been in a company with such a strong culture that is lived and breathed by all. You are treated as an individual, and given a sense of ownership and direction about what we, as a team, are aiming to achieve.
Is there anything we encourage in you that’s been frowned on elsewhere?
My honesty. When you feel you can be honest with your colleagues to aid the business, you feel a sense of ownership and mutual respect.
What do you value and enjoy most about working here?
Give us a snapshot of your best day on the job.
I don’t necessarily have a best day but the whole Christmas period is always fun. Even though we are ridiculously busy, we never forget about being in the festive spirit.
