60 SECONDS WITH HARRIET S.

Harriet Senior – our spontaneous Category Executive who once hitchhiked from London to Morocco.

Our busy staff are tough to pin down. But here we’re ushering them into the spotlight, one by one (sometimes kicking and screaming), to find out more about who they are, what their role is and the things they love about being part of notonthehighstreet.com.

What’s your name and your job title?
I’m a Category Executive for the Home team, and I’m actually one of four ‘Harriets’ at notonthehighstreet.com!

What did you dream of being when you were growing up and why?
Embarrassingly I always wanted to work in a supermarket as a checkout girl and drive a golf buggy. Checkout girl: I loved shopping and seeing what people bought. Drive a golf buggy: I’m afraid I don’t quite know why… I don’t even like golf!

Tell us some of the less ordinary things about you.
1. In 2013 I rowed 21 miles down the River Thames in a paddle boat, it was agony!
2. Whilst at university I hitchhiked from London to Morocco in a team of three to raise money for charity. It took two weeks and 27 lifts.
3. I have a three-legged cat called ‘Tiggy 3 Legs’.
4. I was born in Scarborough and love playing bingo and eating fish, chips and mushy peas.

What three words might your friends use to sum you up?
Happy. Chocoholic. Spontaneous.

What made you want to work at notonthehighstreet.com in the first place?
I have always loved shopping on notonthehighstreet.com – it’s still my go-to site for finding unique and inspiring gifts. Apparently we spend over 20 years of our life working, so it was always important for me to find a job and company I admired. When this role came up it was my dream! I feel privileged being able to support talented entrepreneurs and small businesses on a daily basis, and hearing their success stories is inspiring.

What’s different about notonthehighstreet.com to any other place you’ve worked?
The people – everyone is really friendly and they instantly make you feel welcome. I feel like I have been here three years not three months!

What things about you have been criticised in other workplaces, but praised here?
Possibly talking too much… but it’s part of my job to get to know the sellers and hear their stories. They love a good chat and I think they can talk more than me!

What do you most value – and most enjoy – about working here?
Being excited to come into work every day. I never quite know what to expect (or what kind of cake may be in the kitchen!).

Describe one of your best days here.
This is a tricky question. I only started three months ago and there have already been a few great days. Being part of the team for notonthehighstreet.com’s eighth birthday felt special. Apart from the individual birthday boxes filled with goodies and an office filled with balloons, I felt excited and proud to be part of a talented and growing team.
