On Tuesday 14 January, our friends across the pond celebrated National Dress Up Your Pet Day (yes, it’s really a thing). We love nothing more than a well-dressed pet, so we made it happen in the UK, too. We’re quite sure that this will quickly become our favourite celebration day of the year.
Not only is it a great opportunity to spoil your pet, it’s also a brilliant excuse for a spot of photo-boasting (the internet wouldn’t be what it is today without pictures of adorable animals). So, in honour of National Dress Up Your Pet Day, we’re ran a competition on Instagram for the best-dressed pet. One happy snapper, the proud owner of a party-animal hamster, was the lucky recipient of £100 in vouchers to spend at notonthehighstreet.com. Here’s a selection of our favourite shots.
If these snaps have inspired you to think a bit more about your pet pooch’s wardrobe, we’ve pulled together a few of our favourite clothes and accessories for dogs that are sure to make your pup look and feel fabulous all year round.
This Moustache Patterned Knitted Dog Jumper offers a distinguished look for any pup – even if they aren’t quite as fortunate in the facial hair department as this fella (or as striking in a pair of specs). Hand-knitted to order from soft lambswool, the roll-neck design will keep your pet toasty and comes with an optional hole for attaching a harness. We give it top marks for being machine washable, too.
Perfect for welcoming in the Spring, this hand-crafted felt accessory is easy to slip onto any collar, comes in four vibrant designs and is guaranteed to turn heads at the park. And you don’t need to envy your pooch’s colourful new piece – our seller has designed an equally wearable matching brooch for you, too. Best of all, they’re currently offering 25% off both items in our January sale. What’s not to love?
There’s no denying tartan has stood the test of time – in fact, you could see it creep its way back to the top of the fashion charts this year, having made several appearances at this month’s London Men’s Fashion Week. So whether your dog is the type to strut his or her stuff down the catwalk, or would more gladly be getting their paws dirty in the Highlands, our Scotty Dog Collar is sure to make them feel super stylish. Why not add a matching lead to complete the look?
This Camel Tweed Dog Coat is one of our favourite pieces in the pets department. Crafted from fine herringbone tweed and with a super-soft, snuggly collar, it’s great for keeping your pooch toasty while it’s still a bit nippy outside. And with adjustable fastenings around the chest and neck, it’s sure to stay comfy and cosy for many winters to come (regardless how many pigs-in-blankets your four-legged friend manages to lay their mitts on at Christmas).
It’s not always about dressing up – sometimes there’s no better feeling than dressing down and snuggling together on the sofa. But don’t leave your dog longing for his own blanket, onesie, snuggie or slanket; pick up one of these cosy robes instead. The towelling is luxuriously thick, it’s easy to put on and is just the ticket when it comes to saving you and your home from getting completely soaked after bath time.
