20 December: Meet the Harriets and Bookishly

Double trouble

Today we celebrate the most popular name at notonthehighstreet.com HQ: Harriet! We have five Harriets in total, including Harriet Easton, our Business Development Manager, and Harriet French, our PR Executive. Harriet E moved house last month, and we love her ‘No Place Like Home’ House Warming Gift by Bookishly.

Meet the Harriets

What’s your favourite Christmas tradition?

Harriet E: Wearing the worst Christmas jumper you can find to open your presents…. there is a prize for the winner so my family really go to town on this!

Harriet F: I love everything about Christmas; wrapping presents, decorating the house and the tree with my mum, baking mince pies and making festive hampers. And with glitter, a glue stick and a glass of wine in my hand at all times!

How will you be spending Christmas?

Harriet F: On Christmas morning I’ll be going for a run as I’m training for the London Marathon (shameless plug alert!). After that I’ll be spending time with my family, probably arguing over Articulate or Balderdash! There will also be lots of wine, meat and cheese – hooray!

Harriet E: I’ll be going to church in the morning and then spending the rest of the day getting very merry with my family!

What does notonthehighstreet.com mean to you?

Harriet E: notonthehighstreet.com is so special to me because having grown up in a very entrepreneurial family, the support of small business is very close to my heart. Notonthehighstreet.com offers one of the few ways through which this can be supported in a retail capacity.

Meet Bookishly

Louise Verity of Bookishly uses original pages and her own hand-drawn font to create delightful and unique gifts. Her signature ‘block’ frames have no glass so the pages can be seen and felt, and are made locally from eco-friendly wood by a small family business (her own!).

What’s your favourite Christmas tradition?

Definitely charades – we play with the whole family. When my cousins and I were teenagers we would split into kids vs. adults teams and create a list for the adults to act out. The idea was to come up with things that either they had never heard of, or that would be really embarrassing to act out. I have never laughed so much as when my Granny tried to act out the movie ‘Striptease’.

What’s your favourite festive song?

That changes all the time, but currently it’s Elf’s Lament by Barenaked Ladies featuring Michael Bublé. So funny, and relevant to a designer/maker at this time of year!

How does your ‘No Place Like Home’ House Warming Gift epitomise notonthehighstreet.com?

It’s a variation on one of the very first designs I ever created so it’s really special to me. I think it’s a great representation of what notonthehighstreet.com is all about, as it is a quirky personalised gift, with a clear focus on the home.
