16 December: Meet Orla

Keeping it cosy

It’s day 16 of our Advent calendar and today we have Orla McDonald, our New Business Executive, and these utterly gorgeous Personalised Sheepskin Booties from Born Bespoke.

Meet Orla

How will you be spending Christmas?

I’ll be at home in Ireland with my parents, where along with the rest of my grown-up siblings I’ll become really immature and over-excited – poking at presents under the tree, arguing over board games and eating. Constantly eating.

What’s your favourite festive tradition?

I love movie marathons. Staying in my pyjamas all day, eating chocolates for breakfast and watching films like Home Alone, Miracle on 34th Street and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang…all the classics.

What does notonthehighstreet.com mean to you?

Finding the most inspiring products from the country’s most creative small businesses. Working in new business means I’m one of the first people in the company to see our newest sellers and I’m constantly finding perfect presents for friends, family…and myself.

Would you rather down a pint of mulled wine or eggnog?

Mulled wine’s the one for me!

Meet Born Bespoke

Born Bespoke was created by Samantha Gillan after the birth of her little girl. Samantha wanted to find a pair of special keepsake shoes for Lucinda but couldn’t find them anywhere. Samantha is a trained shoe designer, so she used her own skills to develop her gorgeous range of soft, hand-made baby shoes.

How do your lovely Born Bespoke shoes epitomise notonthehighstreet.com?

To me notonthehighstreet.com is the home of the ‘special’ gift; something that truly means something. Born Bespoke booties can be personalised, worn, and treasured forever in your baby’s memory box. Notonthehighstreet.com is the perfect place to shop if you want something different, a gift you can give knowing the recipient is not going to have exactly the same from someone else. The site is full of gifts you can be proud of giving, and I hope customers feel proud giving my handmade booties to little ones this Christmas.

What’s your favourite festive tradition?

There are a lot! But our most unusual tradition is every Christmas Eve as soon as it gets dark we drive around to look at the decorated and lit up houses nearby. There are some houses which are always covered with lights that flash and move almost like the Danny Devito film Deck the Halls! The children are always amazed and get so excited, trying to spot the lights before anyone else in the car! It just wouldn’t be Christmas Eve without our little drive!

Would you rather have to eat sprouts everyday for the rest of your life or never eat a mince pie again?

Bring on the sprouts!
