15 December: Meet James and Douglas

Today’s door opens to reveal our Developer Douglas Roper and our Senior Technical Manager James Hunt. They and their team work hard to keep notonthehighstreet.com in top-notch condition – especially through the busy Christmas period! James is holding up the wonderfully welcoming ‘You Have Reached Your Destination’ Cushion by Twisted Twee Homewares.

What does notonthehighstreet.com mean to you?

James: It’s a really fun place to work – I’ve made some great friends here.

Douglas: It means a lot to me, it is the place where I have made friends and the place I enjoy going to. It is the place where I can solve interesting problems that make a difference to people’s lives.

About Twisted Twee

Suzi Warren runs Twisted Twee and Twisted Twee Homewares, creating what she describes as ‘demented children’s wear and pieces of Object D’aft for their parents’. According to Suzi, every Twisted Twee item needs to be totally original, completely useful, aesthetically joyful, surprisingly affordable and utterly bonkers.

What’s your favourite Christmas treat?

Having friends round for a present wrapping night. We all meet, drink, eat, listen to carols, chat and wrap. Brilliant!

What’s your favourite Christmas song?

There are so many Christmas carols that pierce my heart as they transport me back to childhood and the open wonder of dark nights ablaze with coloured light, but ‘Fairytale of New York’ always makes me stop and hang around shops I don’t want to be in, so I can hear it to the end.

What’s your favourite Christmas tradition?

Putting up the Christmas tree with my daughter. We’ve had the same silver tinsel one since she was born 11 years ago. We hang it with so many baubles and lights that not a single branch is visible! And we treat ourselves to one new bauble a year. That tree is heaving with memories of past Christmases we’ve spent together.

How does your featured product epitomise notonthehighstreet.com?

I have sent myself a ‘You Have Reached Your Destination’ cushion to Germany so that it is waiting for me on Christmas Eve when I arrive to spend the holidays with my daughter’s German family. When I see it, I will know that the long months of preparation for a busy Christmas with notonthehighstreet.com are over and have paid off, I will know that those long, long days of printing, packing and dispatching Christmas orders are finished, and that my journey with notonthehighstreet.com though the last few years and also my journey to Germany will have brought me to a good, and comfortable place.
