Today we open up door number four of our calendar to see Sarah Wilson, our Head of Brand, and Lizi Riehl, our Brand Manager – Sarah is gleefully holding a ukulele designed by The Ukulele Workshop. These beautifully designed instruments come in an array of colours and designs making them the perfect gift, and not just for the ukulele wizards out there!
On each day of Advent we’ll be featuring a member of our team, together with a beautiful product from the site and the small creative business behind it. We’ve asked our sellers to share a product that epitomises notonthehighstreet.com, so read on below and be sure to return for more!
About Sarah and Lizi
It would seem that Sarah and Lizi have common ground as far as their Christmas traditions are concerned. Both will be spending the big day with their families, singing carols to their hearts content with a festive tipple in hand. But there’s a clear difference in their choice of Christmas song… whilst Lizi decorates her tree to the sound of Bing Crosby’s ‘White Christmas’, Sarah will be getting in the festive spirit with a blast of ‘Last Christmas’ by Wham!
So… which product has made the top of your list to Santa?
Lizi: The very beautiful ‘Once Upon A Time’ Silver Story Book Necklace by BUG is at the top of my wish list.
Sarah: I’ve got my eye on the very cool Biscuit Platter Board by SquarePear Furniture.
What does notonthehighstreet.com mean to you?
Sarah: Working here I think we get spoiled by all the original and interesting ideas we see every day. It makes me really think about what I buy, not only about getting something amazing but supporting small businesses in the process. This year I started my Christmas shopping earlier than ever before as there are so many things on our site that are too good to resist! I love that I’ll be giving people things that they’ve never seen before.
Lizi: My Christmas shopping done!
About The Ukulele Workshop
The Ukulele Workshop was founded by Ally Ebdon earlier this year. A keen player of the instrument herself, Ally recognised that the plain design of ukuleles did not match the quirky nature of the those who played them. She then set out to change this, creating unique, colourfully-patterned alternatives.
Why does your ukulele epitomise notonthehighstreet.com for you?
It’s pretty unique! Notonthehighstreet.com allows me (a twenty year old linguistics student) to run the only custom ukulele company in the world which deals in completely customisable vinyls. We’re bringing you something the high street can’t offer, all from a tiny workshop filled with music!
What’s your biggest Christmas treat?
Snazzy Christmas jumpers.
What’s your favourite Christmas tradition?
We have a doormat which sings really loud obnoxious Christmas carols whenever it’s stepped on. It is a wonderful thing to watch every single member of the family become more and more infuriated and try to skirt their way around it. Ah Christmas!
What’s your favourite Christmas song?
‘Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas’.
And what are you hoping Santa will bring this year?
A tiny pet rhino the size of a cat which would just mooch around my house. Go on just imagine him. I dare you. Failing that a new phone?
