Come in and take your boots off. We adore autumn: crackling fires, long country stomps and wrapping up in scarves are just a few of our favourite things. Besides getting creative with spooky Halloween crafts and cooking a fair amount of pies, crumbles and stews, October is the perfect time to add those cosy touches to your home.
It’s easy to accessorise for different seasons, keeping homes light and airy in the summer and comfortable and warm in the winter. With a few simple touches you will soon be ready to dive into that huge pile of autumn leaves and then curl up in front of the fire in a pair of chunky socks. We recommend having a stack of soft blankets stored by the sofa; curl up with this herringbone throw or get cosy in bed with an eiderdown.
Natural decor is a simple (and cheap) way to make your home warm and inviting. Fill your house with the scents of orange, cinnamon and pine forests with these scented firelighters, and add a punch of colour with table arrangements made out of mini pumpkins and autumnal flowers such as red germini.
If you are lucky enough to have an open fireplace don’t reach for the thermostat just yet. Get the chimney sweep round (yes, they still exist) and stock up on logs – keep them handy in this ironwork holder.
Textures speak for themselves this season. Hessian, wood and worn leather are must-haves to create the ultimate cosy cottage. Combine two trends in one with these hand printed wildlife cushions.
Create room for all those extra coats and scarves with these beech ‘trooks’, or use them to hang up pots and pans in the kitchen.
As the days get darker, candles and fairy lights are a great way to brighten your home without ruining the mood (cue music). These initial candles have been long been a favourite at HQ. Group them in a fireplace or on a window sill and watch them flicker.
Autumn is definitely a season to get stuck in to. Go blackberry picking, skip through puddles, collect conkers, make forts out of duvets… and after all your hard work take time to sit back, relax and curl your hands round these knitted mug cosies, you’ve earned it.
